Welcome to our website
We are proud of our school. This is what OFSTED said about us on their last inspection:
|
“Pupils are happy, enjoy school and thrive in the warmth and security of its ethos; they play and work hard with zest and enthusiasm.”
(Ofsted, October 2007)

On behalf of the staff and pupils of Waterbeach Community Primary School I would like to welcome you to our school website.
I’d like to tell you something about our school, and hope you enjoy learning about us. Our school is a mixed primary school, with an average annual number of 350 pupils from 4 – 11 years. We take great pride in our school and its attractive grounds and our children enjoy learning in a safe, happy and stimulating environment that cares for their individual needs. We value a positive relationship between the school and our parents and carers.
Our most recent Ofsted report (in October 2007) graded the school as ‘outstanding’ , with the following comments:
|
|
“Teaching is excellent because pupils now have consistently good and often outstanding classroom experiences. Pupils are seen as partners in the learning process.”
“The strength of the school lies in the high quality of all its staff who are united in their professionalism and purpose….”

We are so proud to be considered outstanding!
The school is a single story building which is situated on a large site in the centre of the village. There are thirteen classrooms, a library, hall, gym, environment area and outdoor swimming pool. There are large infant and junior playgrounds and playing fields. Also on the site is a Community Room, which houses the local library, and a Scout hut. A new building has been constructed to house the popular after school club (WASPS) and the Community Playgroup. The school Site Manager also lives on the site. The school is used for many local activities including amateur dramatics, band rehearsals and concerts and keep fit classes and there is an active Community Association which has very strong links with the school. We have a thriving Parent Teacher Association which not only raises money for the school, but also provides an excellent social base for parents and carers.

We have a good selection of after-school clubs, including, football, ballet, jazz dance, French and choir. At Christmas children take part in pantomimes and shows and there are regular class assemblies to which parents and carers are invited. Children receive the Headteacher’s Award on a termly basis for outstanding work in a chosen subject. This year we will be awarding children for their PE work; last year is was for Art & Design.
Waterbeach is a thriving village with a population of 5000 situated six miles north of Cambridge. It has expanded considerably in recent years due to the economic growth in the region and has become increasingly a dormitory for Cambridge and, to some extent, London. The railway station in the village is on the main Kings Cross line and London is an hour’s journey away. There is a small industrial estate at the edge of the village and a number of small companies have premises in the village itself. There are several shops and a Post Office. The school primarily serves the village of Waterbeach, but children are transported in by bus from the nearby villages of Landbeach and Chittering. Children from other villages choose to come here as well. There is a Royal Engineers base at the north end of the village and about 30% of the children at the school are from forces families. The Royal Engineers operate a trickle posting system which means that there is a steady movement of children in and out of the school. Children moving to Waterbeach Community Primary settle quickly and easily into school life
