School Governors are ordinary members of the community, parents/carers of children at the school and staff members.
The purpose of the board is broadly split into three areas
Setting the school values, vision and strategic aims, agreeing plans and policies, and making creative use of resources
Monitoring and evaluating performance, acting as a critical friend to the Headteacher to support and challenge them in the managing of the school
Ensuring the school is accountable to the children and parents it serves, to its local community and to those who fund it, maintain it as well as the staff it employs.
DfES Governing the School of the Future 2004
In plain terms this means that as members of this community we work together to support Miss Froggatt, her deputies and staff in setting and maintaining high standards and managing the school. We also aim to ensure that children, parents and fund holder views are represented within the school and that the school is accountable to the community.
We meet formally four times per school year and each have some additional responsibilities on committees, such as finance and personnel. Each governor also links with a teacher in the school.
We became Governors because we want to support our school - the role is a responsible and challenging one but very enjoyable and hugely satisfying.
Who are we?
